Student Apprentice Program

Overview

The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay’s (MCTB) Student Apprentice Program is an opportunity for high school students to join The Master Chorale in preparation and performance of a concert series. This year, student apprentices will be studying and rehearsing Jocelyn Hagen’s The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci and the world premiere of a piece by Natalie Draper, who has been commissioned by the Master Chorale. Students will work with MCTB’s Artistic Director, Matthew Abernathy, and alongside experienced singers to bring the program to life.

In this rare opportunity to sing with a 150-voice symphony chorus and chamber orchestra, student apprentices will experience professional-level artistry and the careful planning, collaboration, and execution of a concert program. The cohort of accepted students will comprise dedicated young musicians who are motivated to pursue a life of music making.

Accepted participants will join MCTB for eight rehearsals to learn the music before the concert week’s rehearsals and performances.

It is the student’s responsibility to secure transportation to all events. Once present, the cohort will be lead and monitored by an educational professional.

Applications will be accepted through February 14th, 2025.

Applicants must be able to attend the following rehearsals and performances. Student Apprentices will be allowed two (2) excused absences from rehearsals.
